Angel Presences with Valery Rees
Some people are aware of angelic presences around us, while others reject the idea. In this talk Dr Valery Rees will consider the basis of these beliefs and the encouragement that can be drawn from both points of view.
There is also a third viewpoint, expressed best, perhaps, by Abraham Lincoln when he spoke of ‘the better angels of our nature.’
In 2013 Valery Rees published From Gabriel to Lucifer, a cultural history of angels covering ideas and beliefs from pre-Biblical antiquity, through Greek philosophy, medieval and modern literature, right up to the present day. She holds an MA in History from the University of Cambridge, and has recently been awarded a PhD, also from Cambridge, for her work on Marsilio Ficino.
Valery leads Renaissance Studies at the School of Philosophy and Economic Science in London, and is a Member of the Cambridge Centre for the Study of Platonism.
