‘Meet the Author’ – Arthur Farndell
Arthur Farndell on Awakening
The fourth in our online ‘Meet the Author’ series
Arthur Farndell is a teacher and translator. For 45 years he has been part of a team translating and editing the twelve volumes of Marsilio Ficino’s letters, originally written in Latin. He has also published five volumes of his own translations of Ficino’s commentaries to the Platonic dialogues. Arthur has presented Ficino in Italy, Malta, Greece, Spain, and Australia, as well as different parts of the UK, and has led international symposia on Ficino’s writings.
More recently he has had the good fortune to become engaged in translating the writings of a contemporary Italian teacher named Raphael. Raphael’s work is to protect the tradition of the perennial philosophy. Awakening, one of Raphael’s many writings, contains 47 short articles composed by him over the course of a number of years. Typical of his statements is the following:
‘If you wake up to your immortality, which is beyond time, space, and causality, you resolve, at a stroke, all your existential problems.’ In this ‘Meet the Author’ session taking place on Zoom, Arthur will speak about Raphael and read from his book Awakening, and there will be a chance to ask questions.
Limited numbers of Awakening are available. After the session has taken place copies can be obtained by those attending by emailing Arthur at adf120437@gmail.com. There is no charge for the book or the postage, but donations to the Fintry Trust would be most welcome.
Tickets: £10 for an invitation on Zoom
