Mindfulness and Compassion – A Fintry Trust Residential Retreat
Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed by the trials of life, or the suffering in the world?
If so, you might benefit from the Fintry Trust’s experiential weekend of mindfulness and compassion.
People have always faced challenging times, individually and collectively. When living with fear, uncertainty, self-doubt, loneliness, exhaustion or loss, we need to find ways to take care of ourselves, and others.
Learning to be kind to ourselves, and the wider world, through compassion practices is key to transforming suffering.
“Our sorrows and wounds are healed only when we touch them with compassion.”
Jack Kornfield
Mindfulness and Compassion are inseparable dimensions of Awakening; and like the wings of a bird, when unfolded in their fullness and beauty, we learn to soar and be free.
The latest neuroscience reveals that compassion practices have a number of health and wellbeing benefits including: lowering stress, strengthening the immune system, and improving recovery from illness. The practices help balance body, heart, mind, and will.
The Retreat will provide opportunities for you to reconnect to self, others and Nature.
The programme includes guided meditation sessions, periods of silence, time for relaxation in the beautiful grounds, optional guided walks, and communal vegetarian meals.
“Awakening self-compassion is often the greatest challenge people face on the spiritual path.”
Tara Brach
The Programme
Friday 9th September: The Healing Joy of Cultivating Compassion
You will be introduced to the benefits of Kindly Awareness meditation. Together we will explore the differences between sympathy, empathy and compassion; and understand some of the major findings from the neuroscience of compassion.
Saturday 10th September: Self-Compassion
In this session we will practice Self-Compassion meditations. We will discover the importance of freeing ourselves from negative self-beliefs, and of learning to love ourselves. You will be introduced to the healing RAIN meditation (Recognize, Allow, Investigate, Nurture). Saturday 10th September: Compassion for Others We will practice extending forgiveness and compassion to others, while learning to maintain healthy personal boundaries.
Sunday 11th September: Compassion for the Wider World
This session will include ‘At One with the Earth’ and ‘Compassion & Equanimity’ practices. Learning from the world’s wisdom traditions and contemporary science, we will consider the interconnectedness of all things, and the impacts of living in a disconnected world. We will look at ways in which we can cultivate greater equanimity and be of service in the world.

The sessions are led by qualified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teachers Jean-Paul and Sally Jeanrenaud, who are graduates of The Mindful Academy, Solterreno, Spain.
