The Harmony of the Spheres: A Summer Retreat at Fintry

Monday 19th to Wednesday 21st August 2024

The theme of this retreat is ‘The Harmony of the Spheres’. The ancient discovery that musical harmony came from simple numbers and that the stars seemed to follow harmony was a world-changing idea – but harmony is a guiding wisdom in all things. It draws all things together to make music. We are part of the dance, bringing to it all that we see and feel.

During these few days at Fintry you’ll be free to enjoy the house and gardens in peace and quiet, and to join in a programme of sessions with composer Andrew Baker on musical harmony, with Julie Parker on the music of the spheres as portrayed by Plato and Cicero, and with Eleanor Parker on Geoffrey Chaucer’s English poetic vision of the harmony of the spheres.

Fintry is the home of the Fintry Trust, and is set in beautiful countryside in the Surrey Hills with woodland walks and extensive views across the landscape. The atmosphere of house and grounds is perfectly suited to a contemplative summer retreat. Whether we are meditating or wandering in the beautiful Fintry grounds, we hope that the simple idea of harmony will permeate our few days together.

The retreat cost is £240 to include full board (vegetarian catering). Non-residential places are available at £180 (to include all meals).
