Return of the Light A Sacred Geometry Retreat for Candlemas with Tom Bree
You are warmly invited to a retreat to be held 2nd to 4th February 2024 at Fintry Retreat House in Surrey, led by celebrated geometer Tom Bree.
Fintry is the home of the Fintry Trust, and is set in beautiful countryside in the Surrey Hills with woodland walks and extensive views across the landscape. The atmosphere of house and grounds is perfectly suited to a contemplative weekend inspired by the feast of Candlemas, marking the seasonal midpoint between the winter solstice and the spring equinox.
Participants in this retreat will be guided to draw beautiful sacred geometry patterns, while also using the artistic process as a mode of contemplation. Through drawing such patterns, participants will consider the workings of the natural world and the wider cosmos while also approaching the inner workings of the soul.
There will also be a focus upon how such geometries are used in the underlying designs of English Gothic cathedrals.
No previous experience of drawing geometric patterns is required, however, it is suggested that practising the drawing of circles with a pair of compasses would be a useful preparation before joining the course.
Please bring your own compasses – all other materials will be supplied.
The retreat cost is £270 to include full board (vegetarian catering). A limited number of non-residential places are available at £220 (to include all meals).
Tom Bree is a geometer-artist, teacher and writer. He teaches primarily for the Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts in London, where he also studied under the renowned Master-Geometer Professor Keith Critchlow. He recently published a fully illustrated book The Cosmos in Stone. He has also recently instigated an educational project in Wells called ‘The Wells Institute for Sophia in Education (‘WISE’)’, which fuses practical arts with philosophy in the light of sacred tradition.
