Synchronicity: A Gateway from Time to Eternity

Synchronicity is the phenomenon whereby coincidences not only occur unexpectedly, but also carry a meaningful, very special message. The term was coined by Carl Jung, and Wolfgang Pauli. Their work straddled the divide between the physical and the noetic, the objective and the subjective. Our exploration will be framed by the concept of non-local correlations, both ‘within and without’ of a system as a whole, such as the mind-body complex.

We will expand the notion of causality and time by integrating other causal factors beyond the material. This perspective posits that matter is a shadow cast by a singular, multifaceted reality that both encompasses and is encompassed by the entire Cosmos. The Ouroboros symbol, famously explored by Jung and Pauli, encapsulates this very idea.

We will also discuss our recent research findings into remarkable synchronicities. These came about with the formation of the research group “oREGano”, which emerged from the Galileo Commission project. Our scientific analysis, focuses on these non-local correlations of consciousness, during significant moments such as the experience of death and heightened states of consciousness. In this context, we follow the pioneering work of the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research Laboratory (PEAR, later ICRL) and the Global Consciousness Project (now GCP v2) on the effects of intention and attention, using special measuring devices and protocols. This body of research suggests a profound and intricate connection between human consciousness and physical systems: the Cosmos embodies Logos, transcending and expanding our logic. What is an anomaly, such as synchronicity, for the dominant paradigm finds its natural place in the new post-materialist worldview. This is a new kind of science, and it is just beginning to emerge.

Speaker Vasileios Basios holds a PhD in Physics. A senior researcher at the University of Brussels, he focuses on interdisciplinary research on self-organisation, emergence and information flow in complex systems. He is a member of the steering team of the Galileo Commission and a trustee of the ICRL. His research team was awarded the inaugural 2023 Linda G. O’Bryant Noetic Sciences Research Prize for their work on detecting deviations from random activity as evidence of consciousness beyond the brain.
